On 24 august 1867 Johan Julius Jansson became the first lighthouse
keeper and started his service at the Femörehuvuds lighthouse. The
same year the lighthouse also got the light . When the new
lighthouse built in 1955 finally extinguished and was removed in
1972 the lighthouse had guided mariners for over a hundred years.
After years of disrepair the lighthouse was renovated, in the
beginning of the 1990's.
The original light was a simple oil lamp placed inside a glass fitted
expansion of the lighthouse.Despite the simple device, the light
at the lighthouse shone with a powerful light that appeared in the
distance. The fotogen lamp, persisted until 1955 when the
new lighthouse was built.
The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1922, and the bell tower was built
used to signal when it was foggy. On December 3, the same day
as the clock was completely assembled, a test was done to find
out the range and the sound was heard at the "Vinterklasen"
and to "Svinskär".
The bell was cast in Stockholm in 1873, and was originally
intended for "Skags lighthouse" in "Ångermanland".
Before the bell, the lighthouse staff used a single gong.
Staffing of the lighthouse ceased at the end of the year
1954-1955 in conjunction with the new lighthouse was built.
At the same time, the fog signals stopped with no clock.
The lighthouse was extinguished for good in 1972 and today
only the foundation remains.
As far back in time, fairways passed "Femörehuvud" head. It also
passed the outer limb of the sailing description contained in "King
Valdemar's" land register from the 1200s. The inner lane went
through "Femörehuvud" and probably also in the now upgraded
rounded strait north of the former island Oxelö where
Oxelösund is today.
A beautiful chimney hood.
Life saving equipment, a lifebuoy marked with the
name "Femöre Huvud"
The beautiful archipelago at femöre lighthouse Cottages,
the small islands are still covered by snow but if the sun
continues to shine like it has done now for a number of days
and the daytime temperatures will continue to be around
+4 degrees Celsius, the snow will disappear very quickly.
This shot is taken when standing at the bell tower beside the
Lighthouse Cottages, I think that the pink cliffs and rocks are granite.
The darker rocks are still covered by snow and their dark coulours
make a beautiful contrast towards the pink cliffs and the dark
blue sea.
Breathtaking view
More photos will be added soon, so welcome back again
Sunny greetings / Maria
