Runestones around Nykoping are being washed

Runestones around Nykoping

are being washed

Right now the rune-stones around Nyköping is being washed, those who are heavily
covered with algae, mosses and lichens are wrapped in clay prepared with industrial
alcohol. Then they are covered in plastic to retain moisture and the plastic have to
stay on for a few weeks. The clay softens and the alcohol kills the damaging lichen.

With regards to the culture and historical value, this is nothing that is done on a
regular basis, it was 20 years since they last were cleaned like this, you have to be
very careful since every time you have to wash the rune-stones the surface abrade.
For inscriptions to be peserved for the future, the stones are protected and conserved.
The care includes keeping the stones clean and to fill the inscriptions with paint to
make them clearer. The cleaning of the rune-stones must be performed by a stone
conservator with specialist skills, and the filling of the inscriptions are being made
by a runeolog.

The oldest inscriptions found in Sweden are at the spearhead from Mos on the
island Gotland. It dates from the mid 200`s AD. There are only five runes on the
spear blade, translated into Latin letters, it says "GAOIS" nobody knows for
sure what that means.

Rose-Garden Days at Cultural Centre, Järna

"Rose-Garden Days"
at
"Cultural Centre"
Järna
June 28 - 30,
2012

During the past couple of years I have visited the amazingly beautiful "Rose-Garden"
in Järna, at the Cultural Centre in the outer Järna to experience the beauty of the
many different kinds of Roses in their best bloom. It is lovely to walk around in the
rose garden, with the lovely rose scent. Some of them do not have a strong scent,
others have a slightly spicy scent. Among the many roses you will also find different
kinds of peonies (Paeonia Lactiflora)

Any one who is interested in gardening or just appreciates flowers can easily
spend a couple of hours in the beautiful garden. The link to their webpage
is  http://ytterjarna.se/en/  and I have added their web page at my links
if anyone is interested to know more. It is a cultural centre with many
different experiences, theatre music, café, restaurant and so much more.

 Frankfurt (Rosa Francofurtana)

Mummie rose (Rosa ×richardii Sancta) This kind of rose have been found in 2000
year old tombs in Egypt, and is possible depicted on one of the murals in the Palace
of Knossos, Crete, from 1600BC. I think it is a very beautiful rose, with very decorative
colours and gives an overall fresh look. I am going to try and find one in a plant
shop for my own garden.

In My Garden 28th June 2012

In My Garden

28th June 2012

After several days with heavy rain the sun graced us with two lovely days, however still
a bit windy and chilly. I went out with my camera very early, the morning dew glistened
on the leaves and flowers, and strengthened all nature´s beautiful colours. It was a very
fresh and crisp morning.

One morning, tired little bumble bee was still sitting motionless on plant stalk

The first dragonflies sat still motionless on the vegetation
surrounding my pond in anticipation of the transformation from larvae to complete
dragonfly to be ready. Soon they would fly around in the area surrounding my pond
in the search for prey and perhaps a partner to mate with.

A very beautiful morning and I was happy that it did not rain the
entire day.

Have a nice day!
