A Day out 24 April 2012

A Day out 24 April 2012

Gagea(Gagea lutea)

Today I went out at home where I live and I used my old SIGMA 50-150mm. The weather
was warm but a bit windy and I found this beautiful little spring flower as I walked in the
wood by a little lake where the Greylag Gooses gather this time of the year.

The Greylag Goose( Anser anser)

Two beautiful Greylag Gooses.

European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
A little Starling was in a hurry and I was lucky to be able to get a photo when it
flew over me.

I found this stone in the middle of the woods  where this beautiful green lichen grew,
I am going to find out what kind of lichen it is so that I can add the right name here.

The Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)

Then all of a sudden I saw a black shade and it was the Black Woodpecker,
I am very happy that I was able to take this photo, it is the first time in
I have been this close to this beautiful Black bird with its red feathers
on his head. Now I of course hope to see him or her again.

I walked along the little creak, and found traces here and there of Mink(Mustela vison)
however they did not look fresh. During this past winter I visited the same places as last
year however I did not have the oppurtunity to see Mink. They are hunted here since
many people do not approve of them hunting after birds nests to feast on their eggs.

The beautiful pattern on the fields, the landscapes are amazing at springtime.

Looking for the Mink (Mustela vison)

The little bridge which you can drive over on your way to the shooting club where you
can practise your shooting when taking your hunters licence. It was getting time to go
back home to make dinner but I decided to go back again another day and continue to
walk along the little creek. Many times you drive to other places when there are new
exciting things to discover in the areas around where you live. I had a great day out
and it is getting warmer day by day. However on my way back home it started to get
a bit colder so I had to put my knitted cap on.

A Day out 22 April 2012

A Day out 22 April 2012

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Today I decided to go back to the place where I have taken photos of the Mouflon family
and on the way I spotted a little Red Fox on a field. As soon as the car stopped the Fox
took cover, he was curious and was keeping me under observation.

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

I was too far away from him to be able to get a good close up, but I was happy to
be able to see that he was in good shape and that his fur was thick and fluffy.
Some Foxes have unfortunatly caught a disease called sarcoptic mange,
however this little rascal looked fine to me, and that made me feel happy.

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

After a while when the both of us had looked at eachother the Red Fox turned away
and wanted to leave the field, perhaps he or she did not approve of the sound from
my camera.

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

I decided to continue after taking one final photo of the little Fox.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)

Suddenly I noticed a Common Buzzard on another field, found a good place to stop the
car, the Buzzard flew away up to a tree, as I took this photo.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)

The Buzzard was too heavy for the small tip of the tree.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)

He was forced to find a better place.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)

I walked across the field to see if I could spot the White-tailed Eagle today.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)

After a short while starring at the grey sky I could see him.

The Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)

I also noticed a Mute Swan in the bay and just as I took this photo another bird
was passing him by. I am very unsure what kind of bird it was but it was a very
nice surprise to have caught them both on this shot.

The Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)

The Mute Swan was interested and thought perhaps that I was some kind of rival
I tried to have a look around to see if I could spot a mate, but I was unable to
see any other Swan in the nearby area.

The Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)

The Great Tit (Parus major)

On the way back to the car I spotted this little Great Tit who was singing as I passed
him by. At this time of the year you can hear so many different birds singing.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)
Arriving at the place where I have spotted the Mouflon family I imediatly discovered
that the little heard today was "two little ones, three females and one male with short horns"
so I think this could perhaps be another heard than before.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

The little ones are so qute one is lighter than the other, I cant help thinking that
pehaps one is female and the other little one is a male? I dont know so much about
Mouflon and they are not so common. I am truly looking forward to know more
about them.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)

I walked down to the little bay at the lake and walked along the shore, after a while
I spotted two Canada Gooses.

The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)

They seemed very relaxed with having me near and I was able to take some shots
without hiding or staying behind a tree.

A lovely couple.

The Fallow Deer (Dama dama)

Before ending my day out I was lucky to meet this beautiful Fallow Deer, It was
amazing that he was calm and did not mind me being this close to him.

The Fallow Deer (Dama dama)

Before deciding to have a day out today I was thinking of how grey and overcast it was
outside and thinking of the high ISO I would get. I was happy and very content that I
decided to go anyway, since at the end of the day, It turned out to become a great day
out and was truly blessed with many exciting encounters with wild animals and birds.
I was more than content with the day but also very hungry after a long day out.
And I was curious and wanted to download the pictures to my computer and
then to share them here with you all.

Warm greetings to you all

A Day out 16th April 2012

"Spotted the Mouflon(Ovis Orientalis)"

Looking for The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) from a mountain

The sun was shining and the weather was a bit windy, so it would be perfect to
go to a place where I spotted 7 beautiful Eagles at the same time. They were
playing and curving up in the sky, it was amazing to watch them from ground.
When I arrived I started to walk up to the top of a mountain, perhaps I would
be lucky and spot one of the Eagles today.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) arrived after 15 minutes of waiting

Just as I arrived at the top and got my camera out of the bag the Eagle arrived.
It was amazing but unfortunatly it was a bit far away. In the distance I could hear
the sound of a couple of Ravens but they never approach the spot where I was
hiding. The Eagle dissapeared behind the trees and the magic moment was gone.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)

But the Erne came back to have a look at me and then he or she dissapeared
again. I decided to go back down again and drive to another place in the nearby.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

Suddenly I saw another eagle that circulated above a field. I went out of the car and
walked towards the field. I tried to avoid being spotted by the Eagle so I walked
underneath the trees which growed beside the open field. Suddenly I spotted a couple
Mouflon on the field. I sat down on the ground and took some shots. I was lucky
to have headwind, so they were unaware of my presence.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

I  noticed that the male had long curved horns but I did not spot any on the female,
they continued with having dinner and it was amazing to be as close as I was
without them noticing me.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

Then suddenly they got scared, perhaps the wind changed, and as they started to run
I clearly could spot two females and a little one together with the male.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

And then another little one occured. I was so happy and positively surprised, I had my
focus on the Eagle and got this amazing oppurtunity. This was the first time ever, I
have had the chance to take photos of wild Mouflons.

The Mouflon ( Ovis Orientalis)

I could not help myself thinking about the reason to why the Eagle was curving above
this little heard. Was the Eagle perhaps focusing on one of the little one for dinner?
I have to make some research and find out if that was even possible, maybe a
newborn Mouflon but not this ones, I hope.

Spotted another White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)

When I lost sight of the Mouflon I continued along the field and there the Eagle was,
perhaps the Eagle had spotted me, or maybe he or she was dissapointed to have lost
sight of the Mouflon family.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)

The Eagle flew to the grove of trees, I was able to get some shots from the field.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) was circulating above the Mouflon family

From the ground I could see the gap in the Eagle´s right wing, could it be perhaps so
that the Eagle had lost a wing pen? Then the Eagle dissapeared behind the trees
and I decided to walk back to the car. I could see traces from Boars on the field as
I walked back.

The Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix)

The Fallow Deer (Dama Dama)

When heading towards Öster Malma I spotted these Fallow Deer´s. And then I
arrived at Torpesta Mill. A beautiful and interesting Mill. After taking some
shots I decided to head back home since is not only wild animals who needs
something nice for dinner, even a photographer gets hungry!
Torpesta Mill, Öster Malma, Södermanland/Sweden

I am very happy to have been able to take
some photos of the Mouflon family and
to share them here with you at
my photo blog
I hope to be able to spot them again.
All the best to you all
